esi brīvs // be free

esi brīvs // be free

This has been kind of an awkward time lately. Not just because of the wellies situation during the winter (nowadays snow can change into rain within minutes apparently), but also because of the borders we set for ourselves. More precisely borders of speech or as other call it "freedom of speech". I just finished a course in university devoted to etiquette and protocol and one more time we were reminded that religion is one of the fields that should be left alone during the small talk and the like. So it left me wondering, has media failed the etiquette course? Sure, we should be able to talk about everything, but certain borders are needed. Something unfamiliar should not be immediately considered evil, wicked and just plain wrong and worse, be mimicked. The saying "don't poke the bear" is there for a reason. Even in our daily life we are very careful about peoples beliefs to avoid unnecessary conflict. Just because I consider myself atheist doesn't mean I'm going to say my family and friends are wrong because they believe in something  I consider being false and the other way around. Think about this and be careful about choosing your sides and maybe making your own one.

“If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”
― George Orwell
